‘Local Dystopias in the Global Utopia’

Local Dystopias in the Global Utopia

Ten years ago, Sergey Prokofyev and Kevin Driscoll met and worked together here, at Studio Schwitalla in Berlin. The experimental work of the studio was at the intersection of Architecture, and Urban Design. As trained architects, this foundational experience has continued to play a significant role in shaping their artistic perspectives and techniques.

Following their collaboration, both artists continued their architectural practice, however each with a different eye of abstraction..

Sergey Prokofyev embraced the digital realm, creating video art that abstracts physical and architectural experiences. He uses innovative techniques to manipulate virtual environments, playing with the dimensions of time and movement. These methods allow viewers to perceive architecture in entirely new ways, challenging and altering their traditional understanding of space.

On the contrary, Kevin Driscoll has rooted his practice in the physical art world, using materials, textures, and forms to create tangible pieces that reflect an abstraction of architectural details and physical spaces. His work serves as an exploration into the realms of familiarity, and the power of association, inviting viewers to engage in the relationship between surface, material, and memory.

Despite their different mediums and approaches, both artists are united by their initial collaboration and their continuous exploration of architecture through abstraction.
